About The Chris Ho Band
Chris Ho, founder and leader of the band, combines his talents as composer and keyboardist to create original music that includes jazz, classical, rock, gospel, and Latin influences. A prolific composer and virtuoso pianist, his performances display a devotion to beauty, passion, and imagination. Breathtaking improvisations and dynamic interplay are an ever present feature of his work.
Sal Marquez, trumpet and fluegelhorn, brings a lifetime of jazz mastery to the stage. His performances and recordings with Buddy Rich, Woody Herman, Frank Zappa, and Dave Grusin reflect his legendary status in the music world.
Russell Chan, guitar, mixes jazz, rock, funk, and R&B styles with a level of excitement that leaves audiences (and band members) screaming for more. Russell also teaches digital recording technology.
Wayne Wayne, alto and tenor saxophones, flutes, and piccolo, plays every note with an intensity that must be seen and heard to be believed. With roots in classical, bebop, and R&B, Wayne plays with the Temptations and blues legend Barbara Morrison.
John Balbuena, keyboardist and music educator, lays down a smooth foundation. He also throws down earthy solos with a funky blues feel. John plays with the Dick Clark Rock and Roll Band in appearances from coast to coast. His composition “Jaqueline” is featured on GROWING UP.
David “Red” Renick, drums and percussion, keeps time with an explosion of sound that reflects his vast experience in orchestral, big band, and small group settings. Polyrhythms and outrageous drum solos combined with a unique sense of musical humor make Dave’s playing a real treat.
Dr. Matt, basses, studied voice, doublebass, and jazz improvisation at UCLA. He plays the Carruthers SUB-1 doublebass, Bossa OB-6 bass guitars, Euphonic Audio amplification, and Tara Labs cables from The Amp Shop/L.A. Bass Exchange
